Yes. The iPhone app is free to download and free to use, with no in-app purchases, no subscription, and no paywalled features. Scanning is capped at a generous daily limit to keep costs sane, which normal shopping will not reach.
PriceGoose checks the major Canadian grocery chains near you — No Frills, Walmart, FreshCo, Loblaws, Metro, Sobeys, and Giant Tiger among others. Which ones appear depends on what is actually close to your location or postal code.
Coverage is best on packaged products with a standard barcode. Loose produce, in-store bakery, and deli-counter items usually have no scannable national barcode, so they may return nothing. If a packaged item is missing, the retailers near you may not list it online.
Many Canadian grocers will match a competitor's advertised price on an identical item. PriceGoose shows you the local price and where it came from, which is the evidence those requests need. Whether a match is granted is up to the retailer and its current policy — we are not affiliated with any of them.
No. Location makes finding nearby stores automatic, but you can skip the prompt and type a Canadian postal code instead. The results are identical.
Barcodes are decoded on your phone — no camera image or video is ever sent to us. We store your email and your scan history so you can review past scans. We do not sell shopping data, run ads, or share data with third parties. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
The app works anywhere in Canada, but the pricing data is best in Ontario, where store coverage is densest, and is expanding from there. Outside Canada you can install it, but you will not find nearby stores.
Prices come from what retailers publish online, and are refreshed regularly, but they can lag the shelf — especially around the start of a new flyer week. Treat a result as a strong signal and confirm at the shelf before you rely on it.
