Results and Prices

Why is a price missing or wrong?

Answer
The short answer

Understand why a store may be absent from a scan result, or why a listed price may not match the shelf.

PriceGoose reads the prices that Canadian grocery retailers publish for stores near you. Those listings are not always complete, current, or consistent, so a result is a strong signal rather than a guarantee.

A store may be missing from a result because:

  • It does not carry that product.
  • The product is out of stock at that location.
  • The chain does not publish an online price for your area.
  • The retailer’s site could not be reached while the scan ran.
  • The store is outside your search radius.

A listed price may be wrong at the shelf because:

  • The retailer’s published price lags the in-store price, which is most common at the start of a flyer week.
  • The price shown online is a pickup or delivery price, which can differ from the shelf.
  • The offer has a condition attached — a multibuy, a member price, a coupon, or an app-only promotion.
  • Prices vary between locations of the same chain, and the one near you differs.

Before you rely on a price

Compare the product PriceGoose identified against the item you are holding:

  • Brand
  • Product type, variety, flavour, or cut
  • Package size, count, or weight
  • Format

Then confirm the price at the shelf before you make the trip or ask for a match. See What should I check before relying on a price?

Reporting a bad result

If a scan returns the wrong product or a price that is clearly off, tell us. Use the feedback option on the Account tab, or email support@pricegoose.ca with the product name, the digits under the barcode, the store, and what the shelf actually said. Do not send payment details or unrelated personal information.
